Inspired by ...
This original artwork was first exhibited at the Reading Guild of Artists' Pop-Up Exhibition, Sir John Madejski Art Gallery, Reading Museum, February 2018.
It was made in the year the Reading Abbey ruins were reopened to the public after 10 years of restoration. This work was literally “Inspired by ...” a depiction of Henry I made by a 13th Century Benedictine monk Matthew Paris. Not a copy, but my own interpretation, first by creating the image as a linocut and then embellishing with collage.
Subsequently the image has been reproduced on a variety of “Inspired by ...” products, sold in support of Reading Museum.
